Ear Infections

We rarely get ear infections at our home, which is fortunate because there are 18 ears in the house. However, the other day my nine year old kept complaining that her ears hurt.

I don't know about you, but I sometimes feel like a terrible mom when my kids say something hurts or they don't feel well. I usually give everything a few days to see if symptoms persist or if it was all in their head. It's not a good system, but it's the system that keeps me sane.

Anyway, I gave my daughter the "few days" rule, and her ears still kept bugging her. (Side note, before you think I'm super terrible, if my kids are obviously in pain I don't make them wait it out.) At first I just had my daughter put oregano on her feet because her symptoms magically disappeared when friends were over, but that didn't seem to do the trick, so I put 3-5 drops of basil on a cotton ball and put it in her ear. I then applied lavender around her ear. We did that for a few days and the pain was completely gone.

I LOVE home remedies. There are several other ways to treat ear infections, but this is my go to for earaches and infections.

P.S. This cotton ball is humungous; I usually cut it down so it actually fits in their ear.
